Welcome
Congratulations, you have made it to the home page for my current class Applications of Multimedia and Web Page Design, EDTC 560. Please take a moment to get to know me and return over the next several weeks to see what I have learned.
Biography
My name is Kathleen McCarthy and I am currently an online graduate student through the University of Phoenix.
My background is in nursing, specifically critical care where I have spent over 20 years caring for critically ill patients. My current position is a Staff Development Coordinator at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Northwest Ohio. I am responsible for the education of nursing staff specifically on the off-shift. I enjoy finding alternative creative methods to engage staff in education and learning. My current project is learning our new learning management system (LMS) while building the online educational programs for nursing as well as managing many other duties. Do read my article in the June 2004 Critical Care Nurse to obtain insightful information on the value of a night educator.
My Bachelor's degree is in Nursing from the University of Detroit Mercy with an additional Certification in Critical Care through AACN. In addition, I was 1 of only four charter members of the Nursing Education Certificate program at the Medical University of Ohio, an all online program.
This year I am President of the Greater Toledo Area Chapter of AACN. Visit our site to see what is in store for local members GTAC-AACN.
Publications
I have authored several publications for nurses: A critical care reference titled "When Timing is Critical", "How to" electronic books for copyright permissions and writing a clinical guide. Currently, my article titled "Unraveling the Mystery of a Code: Engaging staff through hands-on practice" is pending publication with the Journal of Nursing Staff Development
Future
My degree will offer me future opportunities to improve my current position while opening doors to the future.
